Lectoure, Midi-Pyrenees guide de voyage

Lectoure is in the Gers department of the Midi-Pyrenees, north of Fleurance and east of Condom.
Lectoure, once an important stopping point on the pilgrimage route to St Jacques de Compostelle, is set in the heart of the Gers, French foie gras and armagnac territory.
It is a pretty small town, with the Cathedral Saint Gervais and some very well preserved medieval houses on the central street. The 17th century town hall is also worth a look.
Diana's Fountain dates back to roman times, though much of what you see now dates from the 13th century onwards. The fountain was at one stage the source of water for an active tannery industry in the town.
A visit to Lectoure is often combined with visits to Fleurance and Condom, both also attractive towns worthy of a stroll. You will not be the first to take a picture of a grinning teenager at the entrance to the second of these towns!
