Loupian, Languedoc, guide de voyage
Visitez Loupian: gites : hotels : location des voitures | Decouvrir Languedoc
Loupian is a village on the site of a Roman villa, near the Etang de Thau in Languedoc Rousssillon.
A little of the original fortification of the village remains, including the 14th century fortified gates, some sections of wall and the clock tower. The town contains several streets of attractive ancient houses.
There are two very attractive churches in the village - the Church of Saint-Hippolyte (see photo) with its unusual polyganal tower and the Church of Saint-Cecile a little outside the town.
The significant remains of a Roman villa can be seen at Pres-Bas, one kilometre away, including some good mosaics (the mosaics are classified as a Historic Monument). The villa was once an important centre for wine production and export.
