Rocamadour, Midi-Pyrenees guide de voyage

Visitez Rocamadour gites : Rocamadour hotels : location des voitures | Decouvrir Midi-Pyrenees

Rocamadour is on the eastern edge of the area, across the border from the Dordogne into the Lot department. Rocamadour,  in the Parc Naturel Régional des Causses du Quercy, receives more than a million visitors - tourists and pilgrims - each year. and has a population of 600.

Rocamadour has several things well worth seeing, including the Chapelle Notre Dame (home to the Black Madonna and her ability to perform miracles), the Grand Escalier (200+ steps, once climbed by pilgrims on their knees), and L'Hospitalet, with its views of the old town. If you can persuade your children to climb all the way up the Grand Escalier without complaining you are doing a fine job!

Make sure you see the black madonna in the Chapelle Notre-Dame, then battle your way along Rocamadour high street (the only street really).

If you still have some energy (or have taken the lift rather than walked) continue onwards and upwards along the shady path with the 'stations of the cross' to get some fabulous views across the Lot Valley.
