Tournus, Bourgogne guide de voyage

Visitez Tournus gites : hotels : location des voitures | Decouvrir south Bourgogne or Burgundy

Tournus is on the Saone River in the Saone-et-Loire department of southern Bourgogne.

The highlight of a visit (and probably the reason for a visit) to Tournus is the Abbey of Saint-Philibert de Tournus. The abbey dates from the 10th century, and the mosaics inside from the 12th century.

The abbey is probably the oldest Roman style abbey of its kind still standing, and is a very fine building indeed, calm and reflective with some very intersting features.

Tournus itself is centred around the abbey, and has a good selection of alleys, nice houses, artsy shops and restaurants to explore.

The part of the town along the river Saone is also worth an amble!
