Vigan, Languedoc guide de voyage

Visitez Vigan gites : hotels : location des voitures | Decouvrir Massif Central

Vigan is in the southern part of the Parc National de Cevennes, in the Gard department of Languedoc-Roussillon, in the Massif central.

Set in a good location at the base of the Aigual Massif, Vigan is surrounded by hills, many terraced, and is a traditional town of the region. There are shady squares and babbling fountains, cafes and a bustling atmosphere.

The 12th century bridge, and the 17th century hotels are particular highlights.

The museum in the town, the Musee Cevenol d'Art and de Traditions Populaires', and found in an old silk weaving mill, is interesting and provides lots of useful information about the history of the region, with a focus on the activities that have traditionally been practiced here.

If you are staying at Vigan there are several little villages and hamlets worth exploring nearby, including Bez and Esparon (a tiny place in a great position with great views) and Montdardier.
